hi, friends!
merry christmas! i hope this holiday season has treated everyone well and you’re looking forward to some quality time with loved ones over the next few weeks. this will be my last post for a while as i’ll have a very hectic work schedule around the new year. i have a shoot planned for january but you’ll start to see some changes on the blog in 2018.
i’ve recently decided to take a year off from buying anything new in an effort to save money and cut down on things i own. i’ve been collecting clothes, shoes, and accessories for far too long and i think it’s time to clean house. i’ll be selling some things i know i don’t love anymore, but i’ll also be looking to “shop my closet” in the next year to enjoy the challenge of finding new ways to style the pieces i love. i have so much that i really don’t need anything up until now, i’ve really just been buying to buy. clothes and style do give me a lot of enjoyment but i think i can work with what i have because it’s not like i’m wearing the pieces i own until they fall apart.
in any case, i will still make the effort to link you to similar products if you are interested and i promise to put the same amount of thought and effort into my posts. originally, i started the blog as a creative outlet — not something to make money on — and i want to get back to that. i can no longer succumb either to the pressure to be an “influencer” who creates content with the intent to sell people things or to the need to be wearing current product. it’s really not me, nor is it what i want from dreaming trees. this blog is for me to share my personal style and hopefully inspire you to try some new things with your own.
this week’s post is the first example of committing to shopping my closet. you may remember this coat featured a year ago in this post. i admittedly have not worn this coat much since i got it, so i decided i either needed to style it for the blog or sell it; if i was excited to wear it again, then i could keep it. if i couldn’t find a new way to style it, it had to go. well, as you can see, i found a fun new way to wear it with a callahan sweater i’d gotten on sale and some of my favorite accessories. i loved this shoot because stranger things 2 had recently come out, and the whole thing felt very “hawkins.” i feel like i look like someone who gets eaten by a demi-dog while wandering haphazardly in the woods.
