outfit inspiration

boho holiday

hi, friends!

this week i’ve got some outfit inspiration for y’all.  i really wanted to style this suede dress from free people (you’ve seen it before on this post and this post!).  as you can see, i’ve had the dress for over a year but i still love it and am looking for fresh ways to wear it.  i feel a lot of pressure to buy new things to wear on the blog, but i’m really trying to resist that urge and shop my closet.  blogging generally promotes a kind of rampant consumerism that i’m not quite comfortable with, so i’m trying very hard to be an example that you should buy things that you love and want to wear in different ways.

anyway, i got this little fp sweater because i really loved the cropped length and bell sleeves.  it’s also cotton which, i admit, i generally prefer over wool and wool blends.  it’s just more comfortable to me and can be worn year-round, which is awesome!  it’s also versatile; i think it’s super cute with high-rise jeans — i wore it to a recent nashville fashion alliance event with black jeans and fancy shoes and felt really cute, so that’s a bonus.  styled with the dress, though, i think it looks fresh for fall and winter and i actually thinking i may wear a version of this look to my office holiday party (it’s still next week so i haven’t committed to an outfit yet).

i think the swingy shape of the dress mirrors the sleeves in a way that looks retro and fun but still modern.  it’s likely not your traditional holiday party look, but i think it works and i don’t really care to look like everybody, much less during the most wonderful time of the year!  hope y’all like it, too!
