small-town summer

hi, friends!

thanks again for reading along with me! hope y’all are having a wonderful, prosperous summer that also allows for a little rest and relaxation.

this week’s post was inspired by the dress itself! many of you may have heard of the brand the reformation, a fashion-forward company that makes amazing clothes that are environmentally friendly. i’d had my eye on them a while, but i wasn’t inspired to purchase (their price point is admittedly high for pretty simple design, but for obvious reasons) until i spotted this dress which was, incidentally, called the “nashville” dress. i held out a while but when this color came in stock, i knew i had to snatch her up! on our last shoot delaney and i got a little lost and stumbled upon the cutesy town of pegram, tn! we knew we had to shoot something there, and these photos were the result!

this dress is casual but feminine and a little sexy with the off-the-shoulder silhouette, and is an absolutely perfect vacation piece!  dress her down with flat sandals and a hat like i did, or dress her up with pretty heels.  the exposure of your décolletage lends itself to the flattering addition of a beautiful necklace (delicate jewelry is more my style, but statement pieces work, too!), and your favorite bag completes the ensemble.  a great dress allows you to be cool and comfortable while still being polished and cute, and it’s a must-have for anyone trying to elevate their summer look.

style tip
many of you may struggle with maintaining a feeling of polish with your summer outfits, because it’s a bit easier with fall’s clothing and the inherent layering tendency we all have in cooler months.  y’all know i preach layers as a way to look more polished (remember the third piece rule!), but you can still have that in summer by accessorizing.  layering delicate jewelry (especially necklaces and rings) is a huge trend right now, and is very practical due to the lightweight nature of the pieces.  a few necklaces of varying lengths (or one that does the work for you) in tonal metals, or a few rings and midi rings placed in whatever way you find aesthetically pleasing, is an instant style boost for any look.  breezy scarves (when practical), hair accessories, or even just changing your bag can freshen up any staple dresses you already own to keep them feeling new.

please note that i most certainly did steam this dress before we took these photos.  clearly, my efforts were fruitless.  sometimes it’s just too hot to fight linen’s urge to wrinkle.
