outfit of the day, shopping tips

casual & cool

hi, friends!

y’all, this weather is insane. ¬†i had planned to post a different outfit today, but since wednesday’s¬†forecast started calling for snow on tomorrow, i thought it made sense to go ahead and post this look instead. ¬†we shot this look at the beginning of february and it had been pretty cold – i was shivering during this shoot – but we’ve had such warm weather¬†since then that i was holding off on posting it because it didn’t seem relevant. ¬†i thought it was likely we’d get another cold snap this month so i was just biding my time, but i did feel uneasy about it because there’s always a possibility it will just stay warm. ¬†anyway, here it is. ¬†i’m trying to share more casual, everyday outfits rather than overly styled “editorial” looks that i tend to want to post. ¬†sometimes i get too caught up in overthinking what i want to post that i get in a rut, when really my personal style is something i express every day. ¬†some friends have encouraged me to share more of my day-to-day outfits, so look for more of that in the future!

shopping tips
a lesson we can learn from this weather fluctuation is that seasonal transitions are¬†unpredictable; though it’s tempting to start building your wardrobe for the coming season, it’s never a bad idea to shop current pieces while they are on the way out. ¬†you’ll save money, and you may even get at least one or two uses out of it, decreasing your cost-per-wear (that’s a win for the long term!). ¬†as long as it isn’t something incredibly trendy that likely won’t be relevant the next year, it’s a good time to grab something that might otherwise be out of your price range. ¬†this sweater coat from vince is a great idea; i actually got this on the anniversary sale at nordstrom. ¬†i’d always admired vince’s yearly iteration of the car coat, and really wanted one. ¬†the anniversary sale is in july, so i obviously couldn’t wear it for several months after i bought it, but i’ve had it a few years now and it’s still a very valuable addition to my wardrobe. ¬†it’s incredibly soft and a great color, and i love the leather trim details that give it a little something extra. ¬†i wear it as a coat when it’s cool, but i also will wear it in winter as a sweater indoors because it’s that cozy. ¬†that’s the great thing about sweater coats; you can wear them as outerwear or as a “third piece” for your outfit, so you get maximum value out of a higher-ticket item. ¬†for me a piece like this is worth the splurge, especially¬†if you’re getting a deal on it.
