outfit of the day, style tips

april showers

hi, friends!

hope y’all are feelin’ fine these days, and that it’s starting to warm up where you are!  it’s a bit all over the place in nashville; last week it was 75 degrees on monday, and 40 degrees on saturday.  this fickle weather can make it difficult to get dressed, so over the next few posts, i hope to give you some ideas of how to transition to spring.  a friend of mine recently told me that she thought i did the transition well, so hopefully i can help you build your outfit idea arsenal!

personally, once i get a taste of the springy weather, the first thing i want to do is break out my lightest, prettiest frocks.  it’s hard for me to go back to sweaters and boots.  sometimes, though, it really isn’t that warm, so layering is key.  you can bring out your black sheer tights to add a bit of a barrier against cool breezes that still feels like it’s appropriate for warm weather.  a tall pair of boots helps, too!  it may seem obvious, but try to make sure you’re layered up for the coolest temperatures of the day/night, with pieces that either breathe or that you can remove when you get a little warmer.  this kimono is just enough to break the wind, but is still comfortable sitting in the sun.  once the temps get a little higher (and you have some color on your legs), you can ditch the hosiery.

style tip
obviously, i love kimonos because they’re breezy and bohemian, but a denim jacket or cotton sweater also make great transitional pieces.  most of you probably have a favorite sweater or jacket, so rather than spending money, try to think of new ways to wear what you’ve got.  i also love a utility jacket with springy lace and florals.  try wearing yours with your favorite spring dress (peep this easy shift dress), sheer tights and ankle boots for a laid-back weekend look perfect for shopping and brunch.

isn’t this location cool?  it’s an old abandoned gas station!  when delaney and i shot this, it was raining and we couldn’t shoot where we originally planned.  so, like the resourceful fashion girls we are, we improvised!
