hi friends!
hope you are all doing well and had a safe and fun halloween. here is another shoot shot by my pal delaney. this outfit was inspired by the outfit i wore to my dear friend cori’s beautiful wedding back in july. it was outdoors and very rustic and bohemian, and i wanted to dress up for her and her groom in one of my best pieces! to me, dressing up and wearing a favorite, beautiful piece is respectful, especially for such an important occasion like a wedding. to me, weddings are celebratory and happy, and although i never want to detract from the couple, i view wearing beautiful clothes as a loving gesture. i think my friends understand that. her wedding was actually the first time i ever wore this beautiful lace free people skirt. it is at least four years old, and it’s beautiful but a little tricky. it’s unlined and very long, and it’s always been difficult for me to figure out ways to wear it. just goes to show that sometimes you have to get creative to bring new life into things in your closet.
for this shoot i wanted to style the skirt more casually for fall (despite the sweltering heat), so i styled it with tights, a vintage men’s levi’s denim jacket (a great find from etsy), a hat, and ankle boots. it would totally transition into fall with thicker leggings and/or another maxi slip underneath, a sweater, etc. a great denim jacket is a necessity in every person’s wardrobe (men AND women) because it’s a classic american piece and is extremely versatile. it’s important to find one that fits you well in the silhouette you like — you can do a more basic, classic denim jacket, oversized, cropped, moto-style…the list goes on! identify the style that you feel would work best with your closet and how you’d wear it most (ie, with dresses versus pants, as outerwear or as more of a daytime third piece) and search for one in the best quality denim you can afford.
i hope you enjoy these photos; there isn’t much more for me to say about it except it’s pretty darn nashville. the best part of living in this town is being able to dress like this (casual, bohemian, americana-inspired) and not being a total oddball. i wore the kimono from my previous post out and about in chicago and people were staring at me like i was an alien girl. suddenly it dawned on me that people in chicago must not wear maxi-length kimonos too often. of course i wasn’t that concerned, but it definitely goes to show how different cities’ styles can be varied and distinct.
