spring trends: menswear-inspired

happy april, y’all! this week i wanted to talk a bit more about what is shaping up to be one of spring’s biggest trends – the menswear-inspired shirt. what sets this apart from past borrowed-from-the-boys trends is that the 2017 version includes feminine details added to traditional men’s fabrics like poplin and gingham. embroidery, eyelet, tie detailing, bows, bell sleeves, ruffles, and tiers are all examples of detailing you’re likely to see in these types of garments. for me, i love mixing masculine and feminine, so this is right up my alley. my favorites are super-soft crewneck tees with ruffles, soft oxford shirts with embroidery, and traditional menswear stripes paired with eyelet. luckily, you can find a variety of cute options at different price points, so you don’t have to break the bank or go all in if you aren’t up for it!

anyway, i really like this trend because you can truly get your money’s worth. i’ve styled my little top (i chose this guy from amelia styles because of the boho embroidery, obviously) as i might wear it casually for the current weather. i could lose the hat and swap out the sandals for office-appropriate flats to wear this to work. and, once the temps are more consistently warmer, this top will look cute with white denim shorts, or white jeans, and even with a little suede skirt.

shopping tips
go for something you can think of three different ways to wear it so you’ll feel like you’re getting great wear out of an otherwise trendy piece. if you can’t easily think of at least 3 ways to wear it, skip it and keep looking!
