hi, friends!
welcome to the third installment of “slip dressing,” shot again by will vastine! i am excited to show you this look because the two main pieces are actually pretty old. i actually struggled to wear this slip and haven’t worn it much, but whipped this together in what i suppose was a moment of inspiration. i scored the slip on super sale, so i never really felt that i had to part with it, but i was still bummed i couldn’t figure out a way to wear it. just goes to show that shopping your own closet by trying on the stuff you already own with the new pieces you get can really extend the reach of your wardrobe, liven up old favorites, and save you money. when it warms up, i can ditch the tights and socks and throw on a cotton sweater or tee instead and i’m good to go.
hat – janessa leone; sweater – free people {old, similar here}; maxi slip – free people {old, similar here}; layered slip – free people {old, similar here}; necklace – free people {old, similar here}; heels – free people; bag – ascot + hart {sold out, similar here}
this look, to me, is a prime example of what i mean when i mention, “playing with proportion.” for the most part, your silhouettes should balance each other out {i.e., wear a skinny pant with a voluminous top, or a more fitted top with your boyfriend jeans}, but sometimes it’s fun to mix it up. obviously this look feels very bohemian, but a more modern interpretation of it could be pairing a flared a-line skirt paired with your favorite white button down under a relaxed-fit tunic sweater. this look invokes school uniforms but feels fresh, and is office appropriate but can also be fun for dinner with your friends, date night, or happy hour. pair it with tights for now and ditch them come spring, and top it all off oxfords or ankle boots to suit your mood or the occasion.

I love that you took the liberty to wear the black tights underneath the sheer slip dress and pair them with the sandals. Rock on. Everything about this look works and there is originality that shines through. Love it! xo-Danielle
