hi, friends!
happy new year, everyone! i hope everyone has had a safe and joyous holiday season, and that you are looking forward to what this new year will bring. i was lucky enough to work new year’s eve in downtown nashville before coming home to spend the evening with my family. this week’s post features more photos from my collaboration with delaney and clare of council wardrobe studio. this week’s look is very over-the-top boho and features a couple of my black friday purchases from two of my favorite bohemian brands, mate the label and novella royale.

i got the skirt and tee on each brand’s respective black friday/cyber monday sale. these were both items i’d been eyeing a while; they weren’t impulse purchases, i just got lucky that these brands marked down the items i wanted. the thing about shopping on black friday and cyber monday is it’s designed to get you to make impulse purchases; most people end up buying items they don’t really need simply because they are on sale. since it’s the new year, there will be several more sales in the coming months as stores attempt to liquidate their winter merchandise to make room for the spring buy. be sure that you are smart with items you purchase — items that are “buy now, wear now,” but that also can be transitioned into spring (unless they are a necessesity that you know you will still like come next fall) are the smartest choices. ask yourself, “how many ways can i wear this?” if you can’t think of 3 different ways to wear something right off the bat, don’t get it. don’t be tempted because it’s fifty percent off; if you won’t wear it, you’ll still regret spending the money. if you keep this in mind while you’re doing your sale shopping, it will help you stay on track. in truth, this is a great rule of thumb to keep in mind at all times.

wrap bracelets – chan luu; stacking rings – all considerthewldfwrs
these chan luu bracelets are some of my very favorite jewelry items. they are pricey, but you can very frequently find them on flash sale sites like gilt and hautelook (these two are my preferred companies). i own five of them and have only paid full price for one (the neutral one pictured, because i really wanted it). they are easy to wear, stackable, and come in a variety of stones, colors, and materials. shopping flash sale sites is very simlar to shopping other big sales — it’s very tempting to buy items just because they are discounted. however, flash sale sites typically have less-than-ideal return policies because of the nature of the business, so you should read the fine print and be very confident in sizing when ordering apparel. accessories and shoes are a safer bet, but if you stick with brands you know and do some research, you can score apparel, too. i have purchased jeans, outerwear, and tops from these sites successfully by knowing my size, shopping only my favorite brands, researching the items, and reading reviews. if you know you can make a return, ordering two sizes is always a great option. flash sale sites are great places to score items from your favorite brands while saving money and enjoying the ease of online shopping (rather than digging through endless racks in stores like nordstrom rack or tj maxx).
