hi, friends!
happy may day! holy smokes, spring has truly flown by. it’s almost summer, which for me means a really busy work schedule. i work in the tourism industry in nashville, so it’s our busiest (but also most fun) season now. luckily, it also means really fun stuff on my weekends as well, like riding and showing my horse, dinner with friends on one of nashville’s patios, and lots of visits from my out-of-town girls!
i’m really excited about this summer, and one thing i definitely see as a summer staple is an army of functional, cute, and comfortable skirts. when it gets hot, it’s tough to want to put on jeans or pants, so i live in shorts and skirts. one of my go-to’s is always a pair of denim cutoffs (my favorites are by one teaspoon!) so when the button-front denim mini became one of spring’s biggest trends, i felt like it was a no-brainer for me. most of you may remember the denim skirt as an early-aughts abercrombie & fitch must-have (good grief), but the modern version is a little longer and has a higher rise. a denim mini is not much different in function than a pair of shorts, but it’s definitely a step outside of most people’s comfort zones. you won’t look like every other girl at the bar or at the concert if you’re sporting one of these, and you’ll be casual, feminine, and not too fussy (which is literally my idea of a perfect outfit).

delaney and i wanted to play downtown for this look, so we walked down to third avenue to find this pretty turquoise wall, and then scooted to the pedestrian bridge. it was a glorious (although really sunny) day and i love how these photos turned out!
style tip
if you’re coming to nashville, you might be wondering if you have to dress like a cowgirl to fit in. while i fully support anyone expressing their inner cowgirl, you certainly do not have to wear the old cowgirl-boots-and-sundress ensemble that has become so synonymous with a trip to nashville’s famous honky tonks. anything casual and bohemian, which can include denim, suede/leather, or lace/fringe, will work just fine!
