hi, friends!

wow, it’s 2017! can’t believe it’s january and the new year is finally upon us. looking forward to what the year brings and hope everyone has a successful, happy year. it’s interesting how so many people had a very negative feeling about 2016, between a long, laborious election cycle and the loss of many celebrities, as well as a multitude of tragic incidents around the world. let’s hope we experience less of the bad and more of the good in the year to come.

anyway, i put this 1970’s style inspiration together with a distinct purpose in mind. ideally, this look was supposed to hit before the new year to serve as a bit of outfit inspiration for holiday parties, but got delayed due to me being sick. in any case, i still think it’s a fun outfit for a night out on the town or a date with your significant other if you really want to make a statement. it has a distinctly 1970’s groupie vibe to me, and that’s totally what i was going for. if you ditched some of the accessories like the round sunglasses and even the hat, it would be much more wearable in real life and perhaps feel less costumey. personally, i think it’s totally modern and wearable as-is but you can definitely tone down the 70’s vibe if you think this is too much by simplifying accessories or mixing in more modern elements. i love the metallic sweater and was crushing on it for months before finding it on sale. it was definitely the inspiration behind the whole look, but i also think it would look cute layered over a black turtleneck for a slightly 80’s sportswear twist. you can see some of those elements in the styling of the cuffs and neckline and i like that it can look different depending on how you style it. you could even wear it to work that way (or atleast i could), so that’s win-win. in any case, i hope y’all enjoy these photos! i think delaney really knocked it out of the park, and it’s one of my favorite looks to date.

also, with a new year comes the idea that we can constantly improve all that we do. in the spirit of that, please feel free to leave me a comment letting me know what you’d like to see on dreaming trees in 2017.
