hi, friends!
we’re already midway through april and summer is quickly approaching. this look was inspired by the spring transition and my desire to wear spring dresses no matter the weather (tights and tall boots for cooler weather, sandals or ankle boots in warmer weather), so those of you in cooler climates should take note. every girl needs a great denim jacket in her closet because it can span the styling gamut from boho-girly to 90’s grunge easily and with a few key changes.
another piece of the puzzle on the inspiration behind this look is the fact that i’ve been totally obsessed with an urge to see both montana and the west, and the deserts of arizona and new mexico. i just really want to see and stand next to a couple of cacti, look out over the grand canyon, and ride some horses across the plains of montana (maybe see glacier national park). this look is inspired by what i might wear if/when i make those trips happen. i love the color palette of the look as well — the ivory dress paired with the cognac leather and denim with pops of turquoise remind me of the wild west.
delaney took these photos of me at the same salt mine where the photos for this post were taken. isn’t it cool how there it felt like the arctic, and here it totally reads desert? sorry that everything in this outfit is free people, but they are actually all items i’ve had in my closet for a year or more (besides the boots). just goes to show that the better handle you have on your style and what you like, the longer the items you purchase will stay relevant to you.

STYLING TIP
i think denim and lace are a great combo any time of year because they bring each other balance. i love how the denim and knit jacket makes this springy dress way more casual and appropriate for day. this outfit is perfect for weekend shopping or brunch, but would also be good for a casual date night or girls’ get-together.
