hi, friends!

happy friday! this weekend is my birthday. i’m 29 on sunday! it’s sort of weird. i always get a litle bit of the birthday blues, so i’m taking it easy this weekend but have some fun dinners planned with various friends so i know i’ll be feeling the love! thanks in advance to those of you who take the time to wish me a happy birthday.

this week i’m bringing you a really casual look featuring my very favorite color of the moment, mustard! y’all know all winter i was wearing some variation of rust, brown, or orange; so it should come as no surprise that i’m really into this golden hue for summer and fall! when i saw this free people top hit the site i had to snatch it up! it’s a great price point at $58 and is my favorite color! mustard is in the pantone fall color report (lemon curry), so be prepared to start seeing it everywhere when fall collections hit the stores. i knew i wanted to wear this with denim shorts because i love the way blue looks with this color. hence the blue bandana and all my turquoise! it’s a great color combo that feels fresh, i think, despite having a distinctly ’70’s feel.

style tips
if you love the color but aren’t sure how to wear mustard, take a leaf out of my book and pair it with turquoise or light blue. if you want something more toned down, try navy! brown and tan look great with it, too, as does white! personally, i think black is a little too safe but it works, of course. for me, i tend to like to pair warm with cool so it feels balanced, so when in doubt, stick to cool colors and you’ll be good to go! for something more unexpected, i think it would look awesome with burgundy or maroon once fall weather begins to set in.
