hi, friends!
y’all, this weather is insane. i had planned to post a different outfit today, but since wednesday’s forecast started calling for snow on tomorrow, i thought it made sense to go ahead and post this look instead. we shot this look at the beginning of february and it had been pretty cold – i was shivering during this shoot – but we’ve had such warm weather since then that i was holding off on posting it because it didn’t seem relevant. i thought it was likely we’d get another cold snap this month so i was just biding my time, but i did feel uneasy about it because there’s always a possibility it will just stay warm. anyway, here it is. i’m trying to share more casual, everyday outfits rather than overly styled “editorial” looks that i tend to want to post. sometimes i get too caught up in overthinking what i want to post that i get in a rut, when really my personal style is something i express every day. some friends have encouraged me to share more of my day-to-day outfits, so look for more of that in the future!
shopping tips
a lesson we can learn from this weather fluctuation is that seasonal transitions are unpredictable; though it’s tempting to start building your wardrobe for the coming season, it’s never a bad idea to shop current pieces while they are on the way out. you’ll save money, and you may even get at least one or two uses out of it, decreasing your cost-per-wear (that’s a win for the long term!). as long as it isn’t something incredibly trendy that likely won’t be relevant the next year, it’s a good time to grab something that might otherwise be out of your price range. this sweater coat from vince is a great idea; i actually got this on the anniversary sale at nordstrom. i’d always admired vince’s yearly iteration of the car coat, and really wanted one. the anniversary sale is in july, so i obviously couldn’t wear it for several months after i bought it, but i’ve had it a few years now and it’s still a very valuable addition to my wardrobe. it’s incredibly soft and a great color, and i love the leather trim details that give it a little something extra. i wear it as a coat when it’s cool, but i also will wear it in winter as a sweater indoors because it’s that cozy. that’s the great thing about sweater coats; you can wear them as outerwear or as a “third piece” for your outfit, so you get maximum value out of a higher-ticket item. for me a piece like this is worth the splurge, especially if you’re getting a deal on it.
sweater coat – vince {old, similar here on sale}; tee – project social tee c/o council wardrobe studio; belt – j. crew; jeans – topshop; beanie – free people {old, similar here}; booties – matisse; bag – proenza schouler; diamond choker – judith bright; labradorite bar necklace – carden avenue; sandalwood bracelets – judith bright; horseshoe cuff and matching ring – horsethief silver
