hello & welcome to dreaming trees! i am a twenty-something fashion-obsessed individual living in nashville, tn. i’d describe my style as bohemian, girly, with a bit of a tomboy twist every once in a while. i’ve been interested in starting a personal style blog for some time but essentially made excuses as to why i shouldn’t. recently, i’d been considering it more and more, and finally decided that it was probably the creative outlet i needed. the catalyst for all of this was following photoshoot I did with one of my best friends, mollie over at the real bad kitty. we’ve been talking about doing a shoot together ever since she started it.
the idea for our shoot was that even though we have very different personal styles — mollie’s style is edgy, rock-and-roll, with plenty of attitude and sex appeal — we tend to like the same pieces. it’s interesting to find someone whose style is so different from your own but whose taste is so similar. we always love the same items or each other’s newest additions, but you’d never see us wear them in the same way. so, we decided we wanted to take pieces we both loved but show our personal differences in the way we style them!
mollie’s awesome dad, jason hancock, took all the photos for us. he also provided hilarious commentary on the absurdity of the situation.
on me (left): hat – free people; embellished slip – free people; ivory slip – free people; shoes – jeffrey campbell x free people; necklace and rings – considerthewldflwrs; wrap bracelets – chan luu.
on mollie (right): dress – free people via my closet; coin necklace – hautelook (similar here); shoes – jeffrey campbell x free people; rings – all vintage; flower crown – free people.
the dress i am wearing is a beautiful beaded slip that i instantly fell in love with when i saw it in a free people catalogue a few months ago. the trouble is, it’s not exceedingly practical to wear in real life. it’s a little heavy and very delicate, and even though i love beautiful clothes, i tend to be pretty practical when i’m dressing for everyday. mollie’s dress actually belongs to me (i brought it along for our shoot on a whim because mollie was planning on wearing something completely different) and is not something i’d typically buy. i forced myself to buy this dress in the black rather than ivory because i always buy ivory, and even though it was lovely, i thought i ought to try something different. plus, i liked the witchy woman, stevie nicks vibe (which is totally up mollie’s alley) and thought i needed at least one “stevie moment.” fashion is absurd.
on me: bag – proenza schouler.
just a couple of pint sized models.
would this not be the raddest senior portrait ever?
this was my personal favorite shot of the day.
mollie is an old pro at posing/smizing. i, on the other hand, am a work in progress!
here’s a close up of our shoes.
mollie’s dad found this vintage flag at a relative’s house. it was serendipitously the perfect prop.
this was by far our favorite photo of the day. we kept calling it “best of the best.”
thanks for reading! i am excited about this new adventure for myself, and i really appreciate you coming along!
