hi, friends!
howdy! happy friday! i can’t believe it’s already december, y’all. the holiday season is in full swing and my job is keeping me very busy with trying to have our stores stocked, marketed and ready for holiday as well as get ready for our huge new year’s eve event. i had a really cool opportunity to work with some local bloggers in a professional setting, as we designed the holiday marketing campaign for one of our stores around the idea that these six bloggers would come in, shop, and curate a stocking using our locally-made products as gift ideas for their readers. it was a lot of fun and quite an undertaking, and this past week a local news station featured our store and one of our bloggers on their midday segment, so we got some great press and exposure out of the idea!
anyway, this outfit is inspired by a real-life look i wore to work. i have had this suede dress for a while (you may remember it from this post from the spring) but wanted to find a way to wear it to work. since the neckline is a bit low, i thought i could layer it over a tee for a fun, 90’s-inspired ensemble. i wore different shoes to work, obviously, but i wanted to modify it slightly for a casual fall feel. i definitely had a little bit of ‘gilmore girls’ nostalgia that influenced my choices; i think lorelai gilmore would be totally down with some mules that say, ‘go sit on a cactus,’ am i right?
layering tees with dresses is a fun way to mix up your wardrobe to reinvent pieces you already own, and to easily and affordably make the 90’s trend work for you. this dress is more of an a-line shift, so you can’t quite tell that the tee is very fitted, but using a more fitted tee is the way to go, especially if you’re going to wear a more slinky slip dress.
