holiday style part 1

hi, friends!

happy friday!  thanksgiving is next week, so i wanted to give y’all a little outfit festive bohemian inspiration for all the upcoming holiday soirees.  many of you may be travelling, so now is the time to start planning your outfits.  i chose this dress in hopes it helps you to put together something unique to wear to your family events.  while i don’t have anything against your traditional holiday get-ups, i think it’s nice to be a bit less literal with the holiday.  it’s easier than you think to be out-of-the-box while still maintaining the spirit and cheer of the season.

i actually bought this dress for a friend’s fall wedding, but i think it’s perfect also for a holiday party due to its autumnal color…the mustard hue is totally on-trend but still a bit unexpected.  i love it with my tall boots and while it’s maybe not the single most flattering thing i own, i love it so i don’t care.  i’m all about dressing for your body type and wearing what makes you look your best, but it’s totally ok to wear something simply because you are crazy about it.  that feeling of joy and confidence is invaluable and more important to me than the appearances of it all.

style tip
think emerald green, navy, mustard, or even a rich purple for your holiday parties in heavier, textured fabrics like lace, brocade or velvet.  these make a statement, feel elevated, and look festive without being your typical red or bordeaux.  anything metallic or ivory will also feel appropriate for the season without being too predictable.  throw on your favorite accessories.  if you want to lean towards something more edgy, wear all black but mix textures — pair a leather jacket and cigarette pants with cool velvet ankle boots — to give an achromatic look dimension and interest.
