outfit of the day, photoshoot

bohemian rhapsody

hey friends!

for this week’s (and next week’s) post, delaney and i teamed up with my girl mollie for a shoot! we wanted to again show you two ways to wear similar styles. i think this is important because it can show how you can style things in a variety of ways for your own personal use, or to maybe inspire you to try something outside of you comfort zone to make you see how easy it is to really make something your own.

for this shoot mollie and i wanted to show you two ways to wear a stand-out statement heel. mollie and i both lean toward the bohemian side of things, but she is much more downtown, edgy, cool-girl while i tend to choose items that are softer, more casual, and a little borrowed-from-the-boys. for this look we both chose our incredible valentino rock stud heels. really, you can see the differences in our styles just by looking at the two different styles of rock studs we chose. these are some of the most in-demand shoes on the market, worn all over the place by a-list bloggers and celebrities. they are one of the most iconic pieces of the past several years and, as true fashion girls, mollie and i both at some point decided we had to have them.

on me: hat – nordstrom {similar here}; wrap – free people; thermal – free people; denim – madewell; shoes – valentino {similar here}.  on mollie: sweater – haute hippie; shoes – valentino

as you can see, our looks are really different but have similar elements.  the thing for me is that i am not always comfortable in heels; i usually feel too fussy in them.  that’s why, with a very dressy shoe like these, i chose to bring them down a few notches with a slouchy jean and a wrap.  i can definitely rock these in a dressier way for a special occasion, but this is how, when i got them, i envisioned myself styling them.  i absolutely love the idea of a statement, sexy shoe with a boyfriend jean.  it just seems like the perfect balance.

i don’t care what anyone tells you — the sexiest shoe on the planet is a pointed toe pump, and especially one with a t-strap.  the t-strap draws your eye down as does the point of the toe; it elongates the leg.  it also looks like a really sexy weapon you could defend yourself with, should the need arise.

we actually do like each other!

delaney took us to this very nice area in green hills that’s practically vacant.  naturally, there were quite a few people that have excellent timing who were able to stare at us shamelessly as they drove past.

oh yeah!  surprise! i got bangs. they have made me really intensely serious.

jewelry left to right: turquoise ring – vintage (from the flea market); delicate midi rings – judith bright (gifted from my pal cori!); coil ring – considerthewldfwrs; adjustable two-tone ring – considerthewldfwrs {similar here}; moon and stars set – considerthewldfwrs; silver ring – vintage (from pangaea); turquoise ring – vintage (from pangaea)

helpful hint: this tip comes from mollie, who is an avid jewelry collector.  if you shop for vintage rings on etsy (a great place to find reasonable vintage jewels), make sure you look for sterling silver pieces.  this means you don’t have to worry about the size!  mollie has taken several sterling rings she got on etsy to a local jeweler who can resize them for a reasonable fee! this means you can buy a ring you’re crazy about even if it’s a size 9 men’s ring!
