big sky

hi, friends!

y’all, these are some of my favorite photos ever; this is also one of my favorite outfits i’ve ever shared on the blog, so i hope you’re ready for a lot of photos.  these photos look like we’re somewhere out west — montana or wyoming, maybe — and i love the vintage western feel.  we’re really at percy warner park here in nashville, and it really makes me appreciate how beautiful tennessee is that this is right in my backyard.  doesn’t change the fact that i really want to visit “big sky country,” and be a cowgirl for a while.

this outfit is just a fun, casual look that is sort of a formulaic “uniform” of sorts for me – tee tucked into jeans with a higher rise, ankle boots, jacket, and accessories.  i don’t always wear hats in “real life” – i typically only wear them if i’m going out to a bar or concert, or for special occassions that a hat makes sense for.  they are very much an attention-grabber in real life, and truthfully, that’s not something i am really comfortable with in my day-to-day life.  i know it probably sounds trite, but i truly dress how i dress mostly for fun and to express myself, not necessarily for attention.  i am a pretty introverted, private person and really use this as a creative outlet for my outfit ideas.  i know i share very little personal details on my blog but maybe that’s something i should do more of…?!  if that’s something y’all would like from me – please let me know in the comments!  i’m really interested to know what those of you who consistently read would like to hear more of.

my style is very casual, americana, and tomboy.  it’s interesting, because i used to be much more girly, but since i moved back to nashville i’ve definitely been influenced by the laid-back style of our town.  i love the combination of denim and suede or leather.  it’s all-american, classic, and easy.  the combination of textures is interesting, too, especially when layered with something soft (like a t-shirt) or feminine (like silk or lace).  what are your favorite combinations to wear?

shoutout to my girl, delaney royer, who’s getting married next month.  without her behind the lens, this blog wouldn’t be anything and i owe so much to her for being able to execute my vision.  we get along so well that after we’re done shooting we’ll sit for half an hour — in the heat or in the cold — just chatting about everything from politics to our distaste for the “good old boys club.”  we also happen to be the same myers-briggs personality type, so we’ve got an understanding that is hard to find.  she’s so stylistic and has a unique perspective; if you’re in the area and need photos or just a creative friend, check her out!
