outfit of the day, photoshoot

fall colors

hey friends!

i’m back this week with another collaboration with my girl mollie, shot by delaney.  we wanted to bring you another feature of how we both style similar pieces.  this week we wanted to shoot our beautiful veda leather jackets.  mollie and i both own the one i am wearing, but she chose to wear her awesome new cotton-and-leather iteration.  we thought the colors would look great with the fall foliage, so that was our inspiration.

i typically wear this jacket with all black because it is such a statement, but i wanted to try a new way of wearing it with this frilly free people slip from deep in the archives (that’s my euphemistic way of saying that it’s very old).  i paired it all with the infamous jeffrey campbell lita boot in order to balance out all the fuss.  this bootie was on every blogger’s feet a few years ago, but she still can look fresh when styled in a way that feels current.  mollie styled her jacket in a more casual, downtown look with her new gucci crossbody, a flowy free people top and bralette, and some killer donna karan booties.

the main reason we try to structure our posts together this way is because we think it is really important to highlight our individual styles with respect to the same pieces.  we hope to show you both a level of versatility that is necessary with anything you invest in for your wardrobe, as well as to serve (hopefully) as some inspiration for you when you’re looking at pieces in your own closet.  it’s really important that the items you buy be versatile within your existing wardrobe.  one of the most fun things about fashion is being able to try new trends and to make everything your own, but also trying new and fresh ways of wearing the things you already have.  this is how you continue to bring new life to your favorite pieces and how you maintain satisfaction with your closet without constantly buying new items.
