collaboration, photoshoot

are we out of the woods yet

hi, friends!

i hope you all had a fun-filled, happy holiday season.  whether you celebrate hannukah, christmas, or kwanzaa, i hope your days have been full of love, joy, and good times with your families!  this time of year can be both wonderful and stressful, so i definitely hope it leant more toward the former.  anyway, this week is a special post! it features a collaboration between myself, delaney, and the very talented nashville stylist clare koppang of council wardrobe studio.  clare and i worked together at nordstrom before she started her own styling business. she offers styling for both men and women with a wide range of service options, but one thing that sets her apart is the fact that she has a studio with a carefully curated selection of unique, beautiful garments.  most of the brands are cool, up-and-coming designers, so you can feel confident that the pieces you buy from her won’t be all around town.  i was so flattered when she reached out to me asking if i’d be willing to feature some of her products, and the photos from this week and next is the result.

the three of us went on a wild adventure one sunday morning in order to find the perfect “field” because i wanted something very moody and over-the-top bohemian.  we got pretty lucky and the photos turned out beautiful.

hat – janessa leone {c/o council wardrobe studio}; dress – for love and lemons

forloveandlemonsback

i admired this for love & lemons dress from afar for several months before taking advantage of their black friday deal to get it.  i couldn’t wait to shoot it because i knew it would look really pretty  in an outdoor setting, and we decided to style it up with the sleek navy hat and the faux fur.  i love the fact that it is fitted and sheer with the low back, but that i’m still completely covered.  as beautiful and fancy as this dress is, i also can’t wait to wear it out with friends with my leather jacket.  i think everyone needs a beautiful dress that they can dress up or down for a variety of ocassions.  keep this in mind if you’re shopping for a dress for new year’s eve — try to choose something that you’ll wear again.  i love this little for love & lemons number dressed up with a sparkly statement necklace, your favorite black pumps, and a pretty bag. if you want something more classic, a fit-and-flare style like this is generally flattering for many body types because it defines the waist and then flares over the hips, which is where a lot of women are self-conscious.  the fact that it has a sleeve adds to the versatility because a sweater or jacket isn’t necessary.  you could wear it casually with a denim or leather jacket and boots, or dress it up with nude heels (go for a pair with a pointed toe because it elongates the leg, and choose one without a platform because it’s the most timeless) and a metallic belt for your new year’s soirée.  don’t forget to top it off with a faux fur (you can get the one i’m wearing by contacting clare).

boho luxe hat

janessa leone is an la-based hat company that makes all their hats here in the states.  they have a lot of credibility with the fashion industry, and the fact that clare has them (and has had them for a while) is pretty exciting.  this navy hat with the gold bands is so beautiful and simple, i was thrilled to wear it!  we thought the navy softened the vampy vibes of the dress.  a lot of people think you can’t wear navy with black but as you can see, they look very chic together.
